Frequently Asked Questions About the Math Competitions Club

What competitions does the Math Competitions Club prepare students for?

The club prepares students for a range of competitions based on their grade level: Elementary students (Grades 3–5) focus on MOEMS and foundational competition math; Middle School students (Grades 6–8) train for MOEMS and MATHCOUNTS; High School students (Grades 9–11) work toward AMC 10/12, AIME, and IMO-pathway competitions.

What grade levels are covered?

The Math Competitions Club serves students in Grades 3–11, divided into three levels: Elementary (Grades 3–5), Middle School (Grades 6–8), and High School (Grades 9–11). Each level has a curriculum matched to its competition targets and mathematical depth.

How long is each session?

Each session is 90 minutes, held weekly. The time is split between concept instruction, problem-solving techniques, and timed practice to simulate real competition conditions.

What topics are covered in the curriculum?

The curriculum covers core competition math topics: algebra, geometry, number theory, and combinatorics, with increasing depth at each level. Students also learn specialized problem-solving strategies and analytical thinking techniques required at their target competitions.

Are mock contests included?

Yes. Each level includes regular mock contests in the format of their target competition. These timed simulations help students build confidence, improve pacing, and identify areas for growth before the real event.

Does my child need to be advanced in math to join?

Not necessarily. The Elementary level begins with arithmetic, logic, and foundational problem-solving — students with curiosity and enthusiasm for math are ready to join. Upper levels (Middle and High School) require stronger math foundations and a genuine interest in competitive mathematics.
